Canada Lands Company was on hand in Montréal’s “Little Burgundy” section this past September to celebrate the unveiling of a mural paying tribute to the late jazz legend Oscar Peterson.
The mural, entitled ‘Jazz Born Here’, was created by artist Gene Pendon. The painting was part of a beautification initiative spearheaded by the Coalition de la Petite-Bourgogne, a local community group.
Canada Lands Company contributed financially to the project, which was undertaken by MU — a non-profit organization that supports and promotes local public art. The mural’s announcement also served to celebrate MU’s fifth anniversary.
Oscar Peterson was a musician born in Little Burgundy and the mural was painted at the corner of des Seigneurs and St. Jacques, immediately next to Oscar Peterson Park.
The event was attended by Peterson’s widow, Kelly Peterson, Montréal Mayor Gerald Tremblay, and the musician’s longtime friend Oliver Jones, who performed ‘Place St. Henri’ written by Peterson in 1963.

La Société immobilière du Canada a participé, en septembre dernier, au dévoilement d’une murale à la mémoire du grand pianiste de jazz Oscar Peterson, dans le quartier montréalais de la Petite-Bourgogne.
Intitulée «Jazz Born Here», la murale a été réalisée par l’artiste Gene Pendon. Cette œuvre s’inscrit dans une campagne d’embellissement animée par la Coalition de la Petite-Bourgogne, un groupe communautaire.
La Société immobilière du Canada a fait un don financier au projet, réalisé par MU, un organisme sans but lucratif qui appuie les initiatives d’art public locales. MU a célébré son cinquième anniversaire en dévoilant cette murale.
Le pianiste Oscar Peterson est né dans la Petite-Bourgogne. La murale, réalisée à l’angle des rues des Seigneurs et St-Jacques, est à côté du parc Oscar Peterson.
Kelly Peterson, veuve de M. Peterson, Gérald Tremblay, le maire de Montréal, et Oliver Jones, ami de longue date d’Oscar Peterson, on assisté à la cérémonie. M. Jones a interprété la pièce Place Saint-Henri, composée par M. Peterson en 1963.
